Summer Session 2008

Our summer sessions are a fun way to introduce your child to the exciting world of dance. Each camp has a distinct theme and will include a daily ballet class with an introduction to various forms of dance, creative movement and dance/music history. Special activities will include story time and ballet themed crafts. Each week the dancers will perform a mini dance production on Thursdays from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. (ages 3-5) and 2:30 - 3:00 p.m. (ages 6-8). Bring your camera! All dancers must meet the required age by the first day of camp and must be fully potty trained. Parents are asked to drop off their children 5 minutes before camp starts and to return at least 5 minutes before camp ends for the day. Students should bring their own water bottles labeled with their name and a healthy snack.

WEEK 1: TUTUS AND TIARAS
June 23-26 Monday-Thursday
9:30-11:30 a.m. 3-5 year olds
1:00-3:00 p.m. 6-8 year olds
$125

Tutus and Tiaras will explore classical ballet technique with emphasis on the grace, poise and discipline of ballet. Ballets are set to the wonderful stories of legends and fairytales. In this session, we will discover that ballet is not just about dancing, but rather, about expressing a story. We will read and dance parts of Sleeping Beauty and Coppelia. By learning about a few famous dancers such as Maria Tallchief and Anna Pavlova, your tiny ballerina’s knowledge of ballet will expand beyond plies and marching. Our art projects will consist of creating tutus and tiaras.

WEEK 2: ADVENTURES WITH NEMO
July 7-July 10 Monday-Thursday
9:30-11:30 a.m. 3-5 year olds
1:00-3:00 p.m. 6-8 year olds
$125

Adventures with Nemo dance camp is a wonderful option for the creative dancer. We will take a journey to fish school where we will learn about interesting sea animals. We will study tempo and musicality with various instruments as we head into the big blue to dodge sharks. We will stretch and learn our adagio and port de bras as we hang out with the cool turtles. We end our week choreographing an undersea adventure as a group of fluid jellyfish. By transforming into sea creatures, we will stretch our imaginations as well as our bodies. A collection of aquatic life such as octopi, sea horses, dolphins, mermaids and fish will be inspiration for our art projects.

WEEK 3: DANCING PRINCESSES
July 14-July 17 Monday-Thursday
9:30-11:30 a.m. 3-5 year olds
1:00-3:00 p.m. 6-8 year olds

SPACES STILL AVAILABLE!

Dancing Princesses from near and far will come to class as a tiny dancer and will leave as a royal princess. Through role-play we will practice and improve our ballet technique as we attend a princess ball as Belle, fly on a magic carpet like Jasmine, move gracefully like Ariel and dance with the dwarfs as Snow White. Not only will we learn about imaginary characters, dancers will also learn it is not impossible to become a real princess, for example we will learn about the fascinating lives of a few European princesses.  This magical week includes a special take-home prop that will be used on stage during our end of the week performance.

WEEK 4: ANGELINA BALLERINA
