Blog post submitted by DanceFIT owner, Gina Fay
Today as part of the DanceFITB2B (back to basics) challenge, we are encouraged to be proactive on something we have been procrastinating on. I have had "write blog" in my agenda since Maggie Rose was born. The plan was to blog once a week....haha, you have only read my birth story.
Still not smiling, but the twinkle in her eyes and expressions make me believe it is soon....we just need to be funnier ;) She is such a doll and loves cuddling, especially at 3, 4, 5, 6 AM! She has a set of lungs on her that the whole neighborhood can hear. She gets her voice heard in this crazy family of boys. Maggie was diagnosed with hip dysplasia upon birth. I had no idea what this was and it was so scary finding something was wrong with my perfect beautiful baby girl. You can read more in my birth story about it. Update - the harness is a big pain in the bum, but it is for her benefit in the long run! She can't wear pants right now, so legwarmers and tunics are her style...and of course headbands like her mother. The last appointment with the orthopedic surgeon was discouraging and her ultrasound was not showing improvement, my heart sank. Our doctor is transferring us to MGH and we have an appointment tomorrow so we should know more. The next step (if the harness fails) is a body cast....trying not to freak out!
Post Partum Update
I am officially 6 weeks post partum and healed "very nicely." I can resume workouts at high intensity, so watch out if you are taking my classes soon ;) I brought a scale into our house to make sure Maggie was gaining weight, and naturally I stepped on it, bad idea and exactly why we don't usually have a scale in the house. Not focusing on the numbers, but how I feel, and besides like a sleep deprived zombie, I feel good! The DanceFITB2B 4 week challenge has kept me accountable eating well, food prepping and I have the amazing encouragement from 26 other women across the country :)
Ballet classes have started and I am teaching the majority of the kids ballet classes in Brookline & Natick. We start with the sweet little Tippy Toes class (ages 18 months) and this is the first year we added Teen Dance, so we officially welcome dancers up to age 14. Adult classes are going great with all the DanceFITB2B momentum....we have some cool things coming up:
