Beyond The Barre
tales from a dance studio owner

add yoga to your list this week

When I opened DanceFIT Natick, I was so excited because it was formerly a hot yoga studio.  I vowed to keep yoga on the schedule for all their clients and for ME, yes, selfishly because I love, need and want more yoga in my life.  Yoga started, it fizzled and the clients wanted more and more balletFIT, zumba, hot barre and all the other fabulous classes we have at DanceFIT.  So, of course I went in the direction of client requests.  I like to try yoga back on the schedule every now and then in a workshop form, and guess what?!? Last week it was a SUCCESS!  The good feedback came rolling in....and clients want more! Yay!
  • Jessica was very prepared. The sequence was great and it was comfortable. It wasn't fun like a Zumba class, because it's totally different, but it was calming and let me tune out.
  • I really enjoyed Jessica's class and felt fantastic afterward. She was very explicit when talking us through poses and calm at the same time which made class relaxing. The music throughout class was great too. The adjustments were wonderful!
  • Jessica was excellent!! I am really hoping she will come back. She perfectly showed different variations and modifications of every pose knowing not everyone can do everything. She walked around at different points adjusting people's positions. I personally love that.  She explained things all the way thru. Loved it! Thought she was terrific! Not everyone can teach yoga and she was a great teacher!
  •  I am new to Yoga and felt that Jessica gave instructions for all levels. I enjoyed it and found that it was much harder than I expected!  I really worked up a sweat and felt great after.
  • She felt very comfortable with the flow, explaining postures, and giving modifications/variations. I especially liked how she mentioned places where she needed to use modifications or variations - I think that makes it a very comfortable environment for new yogis. Also, loved the playlist (especially since there was a little Michael Jackson in there!)
  • The sequence was great - I love how we started on the ground with centering, and then moved right to some core work before transitioning to standing sequences. I loved the warrior sequence and the balances! I felt so great and stretched after class (and feel really good today).
  • I loved the flow and her energy, and I really love hands on adjustments, so that was great.

Good news everyone! Thank you for your feedback. Jessica would love to come back and put more yoga in your lives. She will be guest teaching again this Thursday at 7 PM.  She drives a distance to get to danceFIT so please thank her when you see her  :) Her last class filled up quickly, so jump ahead and sign up today. This is the PERFECT workout to take after Rachel's challenging Pound class.

Jessica began practicing yoga nearly ten years ago. As a lifelong dancer and athlete, she first experienced yoga as rehab for an old dance injury. She fell in love with the balance between body, mind, breath and the potential to ground and release excess energy back into the world.

Jessica received her 200RYT in the winter of 2013 after completing Teacher Training at Frog Pond Yoga Center in Princeton, MA. She is a dedicated Acroyogi and Ashtangi and continues to actively attend yoga forums and workshops. She teaches a variety of classes throughout Massachusetts, from Hot Power Flow to Gentle Restorative Yoga to Inversions Workshops to traditional Hatha Yoga- and she teaches children's classes, too! Jessica's classes are invigorating, focusing on alignment, flexibility and strength through creative sequencing and a spirit of playfulness and mindfulness. Additionally, she encourages growth of the spiritual self through the philosophy of yoga, including mantras, meditation, and work with the Chakra system.

When she's not on the mat, Jess enjoys exploring the great outdoors and cheering on the Boston sports teams.
