Be Here Now - Catching Up With Megs!

I found this on Pinterest yesterday as I was looking for new recipes for dinner. It really struck a chord with me, because around the holidays I always remember how 365 days can make a difference in one’s life. How when you look back the Christmas from last year, it seems so different from the Christmas you are facing this year.

On July 16, 2008 our oldest son Luke was diagnosed with cancer at the age of two. The moment when they told my husband and I, “Your son has cancer” is forever etched in our minds. Luke was pretty sick during his nine months of treatments, and that Christmas was a difficult season for our family. Luke had just finished a week long chemo treatment two weeks before, and he also was diagnosed with pneumonia. His appetite dropped, and his only interest in food was green marshmallows and popcorn. He dropped to his lowest weight, and we realized how sick he was when he slept in on Christmas morning, not really caring that Santa had visit the night before.

Luke thankfully is healthy strong nine year old now, but I remember the stark contrast to the Christmas before when we had a healthy 19 month old excited about Santa, who was also very happy to be a big brother in two months.  Having the perspective that things can change, and the importance of  living in the present is always on my mind especially during the busy holiday season.

The point of this blog post is to not get you down, but instead focus on this moment and your goals RIGHT NOW. Not after the New Year, not six months, and not by next holidays season…. Nope, today. Instead of making a list for the next year, make a list for this month. Keep it short, and stick with it. You will be less daunted by your goals, and hopefully more likely to stick with it.

I want to thank you all for following my journey these past 365 days. I have loved being the virtual DanceFIT spokesperson, and sharing my journey with you over this past year.  I still frequent Starbucks way too much, but with my coffee cup in hand I have moved, started a new career path, and feel good about myself. I say 2015 was a successful year, and I can’t wait to see what 2016 holds. See you on Skype in class, and please don’t forget to give me a virtual high five. We are all in this fitness journey together.

Smiles,
Megs
