Our Instructor Spotlight is back, and today we are featuring Lisa, one of our newest Virtual Yoga Instructors! We are so excited to share her story with you!  Give Lisa a big welcome and check out her amazing class Monday at 6:15AM!

1. We are so excited to have you on the DanceFIT Studio Virtual instructor team! What do you think is so special about the Virtual community?

I think the virtual community is such a special community.  First and foremost, they really have a drive and desire to stay healthy, and they are willing to turn their own home into that space to be able to do so.  For a lot of people that may not come easily.  Secondly, they welcome me into their homes on a weekly basis.  What an honor to become not only part of someones life, but to I’m sure their family and children as well - especially those little cuties that I see wandering across the screen during class.  That’s perhaps my favorite part :)  It reminds me that I affect real people and their real lives.  What I do matters.

2.   Tell us a bit about your class and how you started teaching it...why do you love this class? What can our clients expect?

I began teaching yoga after a serious back injury.  I had a herniated disk for 7 years, and finally the disk gave in and cracked.  I had it removed via surgery and have been living with very little of that disk left.  I was having trouble finding ways to stay active and healthy in general, not to mention to help my back feel better.  I found yoga and it was love at first flow.  It lit up a path towards endless opportunities for me.  I’ve been able to do more things now than ever before in my life, and I can’t wait to see what lies in the future.  It’s the sole reason I teach.  In the grand scheme of things, my injury is minuscule.  If it brought me back from my darkest most painful parts of life, imagine what it can do for people who have experienced so much worse.  I want to share the powers and beauty of the practice.

3.  What is your FIT Style?  What do you love to workout in?

I live and breath in Lululemon Wunder Unders, full length.  I’m not much of a “brand” type person. I’ve tried other pants, but they never fit or feel as good.  Think of it as buying a pair of jeans.  When you’re in these pants SO much and you find a pair that fit, you stock up and never turn back.

4.  What do you love to do when you’re not in the yoga studio?

By day I work for a Software Security company that is based out of the UK.  I run the operations of the US office for the company, and I must say I am blessed.  I have the most wonderful colleagues who encourage me to maintain my “other job" teaching yoga, and are some of my biggest supporters.  Outside of work, I am a full time supporter of an Ironman triathlete.  My boyfriend’s dedication to triathlon is part of what inspired me to dive into yoga so much.  I saw how much time he spent training for triathlon and really making it an important part of his life, and I was so inspired.  I must say though, supporting someone in such a long, time-consuming process as this is a job in itself, I need a support crew!  I couldn’t be happier to be his supporter/pit crew/#1 fan.

5. It's the holidays and people turn to yoga around this time to de-stress!  Do you have any tips to help our clients stay "in the now" this holiday season?

STAY with your practice.  Although it’s the season of giving, it’s important to keep focus on your self, perhaps even more than usual!  You must nourish yourself to be present and take care of others in your life.  Never feel like you’re being selfish by taking time for yourself to be healthy.

6.  What’s on your playlist- what keeps your classes upbeat and moving?
You can find my whole playlist on my blog, OmYourHealth.com.  I find it to be the perfect music in yoga to keep you energized enough for your flow, but calm enough to check out of your mind and into your body.

7.  What is a general health & fitness rule that you live by?
1) Eat real food.  Things that grow out of the ground or on trees.  You know, the things people ate before we processed food?  2) Move.  Anywhere, anytime.  Just get moving!

8.  Share your favorite piece of FITspiration with our readers

“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice a gift.” - Steve Prefontaine.  We are blessed to have not only the physical ability to work out, but to have the means to do so…even in our HOMES!  Be grateful for every gift you have!

THANK YOU for letting us feature you, Lisa!  <3
