I was a double major in Art History & Studio Art from Gettsysburg College, a beautiful small liberal arts school in Pennsylvania. I was so excited to see that the MFA had a special exhibit on French pastels. I posted my museum visit on my private instagram page and a few ballet parents asked me questions about it, so I thought I would share with you how I tried to make this experience fun for my sporty boys. I knew they weren't thrilled to go, but we invited their cousin, printed out a scavenger hut from google and headed into Boston on a rainy Sunday morning. On the weekends, kids admission is free, and the side streets has free parking. Admission for me was $25. If they completed the scavenger hunt, I would buy them something from the gift shop. I had to bribe them a little 😉 When I was young my mom took us to museums a lot and we always had to find our favorite painting or sculpture and take a picture next to it, yes, just like the picture. The boys thought this was hilarious, but we had fun! ![]() I got to spend some time with the 3 beautiful Degas paintings. I have been obsessed with Degas since I was a little girl. Degas was a regular visitor of the Paris Opera House and was allowed access to the dance classes because he was a friend of the ballet master. He is most famous for his paintings of ballerinas at work, in rehearsal or rest. I love how he captures the movement of the dancers! 💕 I hope you and your dancer can visit them too! If you do, please send me a picture :) ![]() My daydreaming of Degas ballerinas was interrupted by kids who finished their scavenger hunt & were ready to head to the cafeteria for lunch & to pick out their museum gift. The great news, there were a lot of inexpensive options. I got each of the boys a mood necklace & a little pack of colorful clay for $6. The cafeteria had a nice salad bar and the kids were pleased with their pizza slices & French fries :) It was a fun morning and nice to break up our active days to enjoy some amazing artwork in our backyard! I hope you go visit the MFA this summer.
