How do I find out about weather cancellations? We will email you 4 hours prior to the start of ballet class. Please check Facebook for announcements. You'll receive a credit for $18 for the first cancellation to be used for future enrollments, but there will be no further credits given after the first cancellation in each session.
May I watch while my child is dancing? We love it when parents watch, but please adhere to our policies & respect our quiet environment by refraining from cell phone conversations and bringing noisy toddlers. We do not require parents to stay.
May I leave the studio during my child's class? Many parents use the time to run a few errands. Please inform a DanceFIT teacher if you will be leaving so we can escort them to the restroom if needed.
Do you have a recital? The Fall & Winter sessions do not have a recital. If you continue dancing with us until the end of the school year, which many dancers do, we hold a special in-studio performance during our Spring session for the last class in June. We introduce the choreography in our April - June session There isn't a costume fee, but we have a small fee for head pieces which is included in your tuition. All dancers receive certificates of accomplishment. This is a lovely, stress-free chance to dance in front of family & friends in an environment they are comfortable in. On the day of the recital, your DanceFIT teacher will be there on the side of the room (or on stage in Brookline) for guidance. View a slideshow I made of our 2018 recital.
Can I make up missed classes? Since our classes are always fully enrolled, we don't allow make-ups.
Can I register my child in the middle of a session? If there's an opening in your child's appropriate level, students may enroll any time during the school year. Please email us at info@dancefitstudio.com for approval & class availability (no phone calls, please).
My child is 6, should I register for Pre-Ballet II or Ballet I at your Brookline studio? We highly recommend that beginners start with Pre-Ballet II to provide him/her with the basics and ballet etiquette.
What is the structure of your Pre-Ballet classes? I am not sure my child is ready. The structure of our 3-4 year old classes are very age appropriate. We start with fun games like "make a ballet sandwich" and then put on classical music and make a Tippy Toe train to get them focused. We do 3-4 warm up songs that use words to get them in positions and moving around the room. We add in 2-3 songs at the ballet barre, incorporate freeze dances and a few props and then learn basic locomotives across the floor. Ballet skips, ballet bourres, ballet chasses, etc. We always end with leaps & a good bye circle to practice our ballet arms. All of our teachers are experienced in ballet, but more importantly work with kids outside the studio. Many are full time teachers/ nannies or moms themselves.
Why is your children's program grouped into sessions? Most of our ballet students enroll from September through June, but we split it into mini sessions to accommodate flexible pay schedules for parents. We also don't want to lock you into a six-month commitment.
How old must a child be to begin the ballet program? Your child must turn 2 years old within the session to attend Tippy Toes. We are sorry, no exceptions with the age requirement as any younger they are not quite ready for the curriculum.
How many children are in a ballet class? We fill our classes to a maximum of 14 dancers with 1-2 experienced assistants in addition to the lead ballet instructor.
