Supporting the 24-Hour Athlete: 50 min Nutrition Workshops led by Gina
When young athletes think about "playing at their best" they often forget about one critical piece: nutrition. Nutrition is often over-looked by young athletes and at times busy parents. Performance, however, and putting athletes in the best position for success must include an emphasis on proper nutrition habits.
Gina will lead a conversation with your athletes on what it means to be a 24-hour athlete and how nutrition can directly impact one's performance.
Gina makes the conversation fun and informative and challenges the athletes to reflect on their own pre-game and post-game nutritional intake, while providing them with the knowledge to make healthy decisions!
Athletes work hard on the field and in the gym in preparation for their game, but many dismiss recognizing how nutrition can enhance their athletic performance and aid their recovery. Gina's approach is straightforward: prioritize eating more fruits and vegetables to maintain good health and gain essential performance-based vitamins and minerals. Before a game, class or performance, a student athlete should focus on a balanced meal or snack that provides energy and supports performance. But what does that mean? She will share her ideas! Gina will cover key topics such as carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, and hydration in an easy-to-understand way. She believes in the “adding in” method of food choices—without eliminating favorites. Athletes & parents will receive simple examples and handouts with snack and meal ideas.
