Interview with Andrea our fabulous Zumba® instructor
Describe a Zumba® class Zumba® is a dance party class that gets your heart pumping, both from the movement and also from the infectious music! The must-have beats are Salsa, Merengue, Reggaeton and Cumbia, and around the world, instructors also include music from their home country. So one moment you could be dancing to Britney or MJ, and the next, you're on vacation doing a Salsa! I like to choose easy-to-follow choreography because I personally love being able to learn things quickly and give it my all for an intense cardio workout--and I always add a dash of sass. I love seeing you all make the moves yours!
What's your favorite thing about teaching Zumba®? Making playlists and exploring new music and new remixes is such a blast! I love hearing something and picturing all of us dancing to it!
How has Zumba® changed your life? In a pretty big way, Zumba started my DanceFIT fitness journey. It was the first DanceFIT class I ever took, and I was hooked!
Favorite Zumba® move/song right now? I will always adore the hip swinging of a Salsa (you move your hips in a figure-8 shape, I didn't know that until I took my certification courses!). The horns and drums of Salsa make me think of being in Puerto Rico, a place I can't wait to return to soon.
Can you modify Zumba® if it feels too hard, and how do you do that? Yes! You get to decide the level of your workout. If you need to remove jumps, you tap or shift your feet instead. If you need to take a breather, don't squat as low or swing your arms as high. But if you want to bring it up, jump, swing those hips and throw those arms proudly in the air! Sometimes I have to remind myself to breathe and take a second--I will try to do the same for you!
