We will be interviewing DanceFIT instructors so you can get to know them & their classes a little bit better. We are starting this week with our owner Gina Fay.
What do you teach at DanceFIT? Oh boy! I teach a lot! I teach our tiniest ballerinas at the age of 2 up to our oldest dancers, age 8. I teach ballet, tap, jazz & acro dance! On the adult end, I currently teach adult beginning ballet, babywearing balletFIT, balletFIT, sweat pilates & a small private training group called sweat & smiles. I also teach private lessons. As you can see I LOVE teaching :) How would you describe your classes & teaching style? Energetic, engaging, great music, variety & fun! Do you have a favorite class to teach? This is a hard question because I probably say after every class, "I love teaching this class." My true love is ballet and you will see ballet movements, form & technique rooted in all my classes ;) When I was younger one of my ballet teachers stood at the door with a paper bag and we had to put all our "worries" and our "day" in the bag before we stepped into the studio. The moment we stepped in, it was all about dancing! Ballet makes you feel strong, beautiful, flexible and balanced. I want everyone to experience this even if it is from a ballet inspired mat exercise or plies in balletFIT :) What do you do outside of the studio for fun? I spend time with my family. I have 3 kids (ages 7,12, 13). We love spending time together hiking with our big goldendoodle. I love watching my kids do what they love, play sports & gymnastics for my daughter! For myself I love doing any activity outside and stretching :) I also started cooking more which I am starting to enjoy. What music will we hear in your fitness classes? Definitely the 90's, country and r & b :) Give us a quick bio Let's see, in a nutshell, I danced my whole life. I had some very fortunate opportunities to dance abroad in high school. I went to college at Gettysburg College where I double majored in Art History & Studio Art, but I also became very involved teaching for the Recreation department. Students received their health credits by taking my Pilates class. My maiden name was Potter, and Potter Pilates because famous around campus :) I went on to study at the Washington Ballet in DC where I became a Movement Specialist for their outreach program. Part of my job was teaching ballet in inner city schools and finding young dancers with talent and then offering them a scholarship to Washington Ballet. Very cool! Married my college sweetheart Chris and settled in Boston. I taught at a ton of dance schools for the first few years and then took a small business class and DanceFIT was born 16 years ago! Thank you Gina! We love hearing more about you!
